Long waiting times for NHS mental health assessments and diagnoses are increasingly preventing sufferers from accessing timely treatment, support and medication.

There is a strong need to boost the capacity of NHS services, particularly for ADHD. While alternatives do exist, in the form of the Right to Choose system, or private diagnosis and treatment; these options are not universally accessible to all.

A new way to commission mental health assessments

With an insourced service, NHS providers can accelerate delivery of the first stage of the NHS IAPT by offering patients convenient NHS-led assessments, conducted outside of normal working hours.

The service can be procured via existing insourcing frameworks and represents a unique opportunity to accelerate the delivery of NHS-led mental health services.

The NHS now has a clear opportunity to accelerate the delivery of mental health care with an innovative ‘insourced’ approach to ADHD assessments. This aligns with the vision of the NHS England ADHD Taskforce, which aims to empower service providers in delivering ADHD services and ensure best practices are shared.
